biochip arrays Biochip array technology utilises biochip arrays (also known as protein arrays, protein chip or proteome biochip) as a measurement device used in biomedical applications to determine the presence and/or amount (referred to as quantitation) of proteins in biological samples, e.g. blood, serum, urine or saliva. Usually a multitude of different capture agents, most frequently antibodies, antigens or nucleic acids are deposited on a biochip surface at discrete test regions. This format is often also referred to as a microarray (a more general term for biochip based biological measurement devices). Biochip arrays and biochip array technology can be used for the measurement of proteins, DNA and cDNA arrays. The aim of biochip arrays is to develop the protein technologies and proteins for the next generation of diagnostics, therapeutics and protein array technologies consistent with high throughput analysis.
